Adios Bucko

I’ve got to say how great it is to see y’all tonight, here at the state fair. It’s been a while since we sang this song for you … 1982, I do believe.

We’ve still got Rocky over there on drums, Sue is on keyboard, Beth is on guitar, and me, well, I’ve still got my old mandolin.

Now then, y’all feel free to clap your hands, tap your toes, sing along, or dance with your darlin’… but don’t you dare leave.

Y’all might remember this little song … it’s called “Adios Bucko.”

Here we go…

I see you’re doing it once again
You’re walking out the door
Well that’s okay, you go ahead
‘Cause I don’t need you anymore.

Your buddies should be happy
To have your company
Lord knows you spend more time with them
Than you ever do with me.

Adios bucko, farewell darlin’
Turn around and take a look at me
See me smiling, watch me waving bye-bye,
Now don’t let that front door hit you
On your backside as you leave.

Your whims have left me tired
Your games have left me cold
Your wants have started aging me
And I’m too young to be old.

I’ve had it with being lonely
And crying all night long
I’m tired of saying, “Yes, you’re right,”
When I know damn well you’re wrong.

Adios bucko, farewell darlin’
Turn around and take a look at me
See me smiling, watch me waving bye-bye,
Now don’t let that front door hit you
On your backside as you leave.

This time I really mean it
This time I’ll follow through
This time I’m thinking of myself
Instead of only you.

So look out world, I’m coming
One “atta girl” for me
A new woman has emerged at last
And the best you’ve yet to see.

Adios bucko, farewell darlin’
Turn around and take a look at me
See me smiling, watch me waving bye-bye,
Now don’t let that front door hit you
On your backside as you leave.
